 The importance of submitting your website

When consumers look up products and services on the internet, they use different methods in tracking down what they are looking for.  Most go directly to the list of company websites that offer what they want, or they may click on a paid ad for one of those businesses, or they may click on a business directory that appears on the search results list.  Business directories like Merchant Circle, Yellow Bot, Yellow Pages, and Hot Frog have lists of companies that have signed up with them. Some are free, others charge a fee (I prefer free). 

The importance of submitting your website to online directories cannot be underestimated in pulling in your potential customers looking for you.  If you put your website's url on the directory listing, you will get a backlink coming to your site. This is why for many businesses, it is important to get signed up with a number of those directories.  It’s all about pulling in more traffic to your site and increasing your rankings on the search engines.

Signing up for directories is time-consuming but necessary.  It has been shown that the more information you provide those directories, the more visibility you will receive.  They have their own rankings within their directory which are affected by how much information you provide.  Some evidence indicates that placing photos relating to your business on those directories will increase the likelyhood that people will click on your listing, as well as increase your rankings within that directory.
